The parallel timeline workflow for ARA is too cumbersome and inefficient. Why not treat AAP ARA like clip groups? Make an AAP group (without an alternate timeline), assign the reference by clip channel name ONCE, and move on?
Pulling handles and constantly re-aligning the new sections within the secondary window - also with its own zoom settings - is extremely slow and easy to lose track of while cutting.
With a clip group method, though, AAP would just keep up in the background anytime the clips extend or move in the timeline. Most of us cut booms over lavs, but for those that don’t, clip groups don’t need to be side-by-side anyways.
Compared to a previous workflow of rendering Whole File AAPs (via fully extended handles), I don’t see any advantage to ARA. It’s much more secure, simplistic and flexible to physically render the WF AAP and flip it out via Field Recorder.
