Hello - and a couple of basic questions... sorry

Hello all - I have just bought Pi for use in ProTools. A couple of really stupid questions please before I start messing around.

  • How does Pi work with Drum instruments such as EZ Drummer - where the whole kit is played on one stereo channel? Is it still effective - for example when grouped with Bass tracks?
  • Do I have to render midi tracks to .wav - or will Pi work the same with the midi / instrument track before rendering to an audio file?

Really appreciated it - will get playing with it very soon.

Best,

Tony

Hi @tonylowther1,

Thanks for your message.

In this case, Pi will optimize the phase relationship between the Stereo drum track and the Bass tracks.

FYI, in EZ Drummer you can also choose to output each microphone (Kick, Snare, etc.) to a separate audio track in Pro Tools, and then insert Pi on each track instead of having it on the Drums Stereo sum track.

This vintage video shows this:

There’s no need to render instrument tracks. You can insert Pi at the last insert slot of each instrument track.

If there’s anything else I can help with, let me know.
