I’ve been trying to use auto-align 2 on my drums, and have run into something strange. Even though my Kick mic track is set as the performance time, and the time setting after alignment is 0 for that track, my overhead mic tracks are being moved before the kick track once it’s committed in my DAW (using pro tools). Now I’m hearing my kick drum bleed in the overhead mics before my direct kick mic comes in, and it’s causing problems. Am I missing something?
Hi Diego,
Thank you for sharing.
UPDATE: This issue was fixed with PT 2025.1 and newer.
Unfortunately there’s an issue with Pro Tools 2024.10 or earlier when committing ARA on track and clips containing cross-fades.
Workaround
You can remove any fades or cross-fades ahead of committing.
But most importantly,
This should be fix by upcoming PT release.
Been about a year since I posted this and I’m running into the same issue, and I use ableton now. Is there any workaround yet?
Hi @diego,
Thanks for your message.
If your room mics are ahead of your kick, you can hover over them and use the + button to “jump” to the next correlation point. Click + until you get a positive delay value; now AA2 will apply a positive delay to these mics.
Auto-Align 2 initial alignment can work and sound great a lot of times, but there are options to tweak and further improve it using the +/- button, Stereo Linking, Phase Locking and more.
AA2’s Manual can be found here.
The handy A/B/C/D preset slots can help you directly compare different options.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Thanks,
Oran
