Dear fellow Auto Align users: I just ran Auto Align on a 33 track I’m goin to mix, and it left 19 of the tracks “ungrouped”. Am I doing something wrong, or is there something I could do to get more of the tracks in a group? Thanks
Hi @kevinote127,
Thanks for your message.
An ungrouped track means Auto-Align didn’t find any correlation between that track and any other tracks.
If for example, I recorded 10 guitar overdub tracks, using one mic for each overdub, it is expected for these 10 tracks to be ungrouped. Auto-Align will only group tracks that share common information.
If needed, you can manually group tracks by selecting them → right-click → New Group or move them to an existing group → Align.
If you’re interested in improving phase correlation between diffrent elements of your mix regardless of how they were recorded, check out our Pi plugin.

To be clear, the plugin does in fact ungroup channels that share common information until an alignment is done; if you have tons of tracks you don’t wish to realign (to conserve resources), this can be troublesome.
It also ungroups tracks when ‘Reset > Alignments’ is performed… which is rather inconvenient. It takes time to set up all the groups, having them be reset along with the alignments themselves is not a great behavior IMO.
Just food for thought!
